How to join?
There are different options to enable your students to access the services of the European Student Card Initiative using MyAcademicID. These services are using MyAcademicID to identify the students, using their European Student Identifier (ESI), uniquely and reliably. It also allows to control access based on the affiliation status at their higher education institution. There are different scenario's for enabling MyAcademicID.
Institution is part of eduGAIN
Many institutions participate in eduGAIN, an international interfederation service interconnecting research and education identity federations.
To find out if your institution is part of eduGAIN please follow these 3 steps:
If your institution is part of eduGAIN, liaise with your IT department to make sure that your university can support the deployment of the European Student Identifier in your local information systems and release the relevant student attributes through eduGAIN when students authenticate electronically:
Name
Surname
Home organisation
Email
ESI
Institution is not part of eduGAIN
If your higher education institution is not yet part of eduGAIN, check whether this is an option for your institution and get in touch with your National Research and Education Network.
For institutions that cannot joint eduGAIN and cannot be supported by the National Research and Education Network, a specific solutions was put in place, the so called IdP of Last Resort.
Students unable to find their university in the MyAcademicID login screen when trying to access OLA are invited to check with their university whether they have valid eduGAIN credentials.
